Cracked and Busted

So, our manufacturing plant is on the East coast, and they have to mail me boxes full of our CDs when they're ready. This inevitably leads to a few cases cracking.

When Alex and I were packing up the Chameleon Circuit CDs, we started putting the cracked cases off to the side rather then mail them out to customers, even though the CDs and booklets were fine, it was just the plastic that had cracked.

But now I have a whole stack of these cracked-case CDs. Rather than throw them away or recycle them, would you guys be interested in discounted CDs with cracked cases being made available?

To reiterate, the CDs and booklets themselves are fine, but the plastic jewel cases break easily. Might be a great way to get some great albums at a great price. (Stop using "great" three times per sentence, Alan - Editor)

But if no one's interested in the busted cases, then I won't bother listing them.

  2. Absolutely! I don't mind jewel cases being cracked as long as the CD isn't, and discounts are always great!

  3. OMG i think that's a swell idea! discounted CDs.. i guess as long as the case isn't that bad? and the CDs are in good shape.. because people usually take them out of the case and put them in those CD cover thingys anywho..

  7. I bought a digital copy through iTunes, but would love to get an actual CD as well, so I'd definitely be interested in a cracked case discount.

  10. Great idea! I always throw the cases away anyway, or use them as coasters. :)

  11. This sounds like a great plan to me - I think Hank would be pleased with the eco-friendliness of not throwing them away as well :)

  12. Yes, definitely! I've been wanting to get a few DFTBA cds for my brother. He would totally not mind cracked cases, I don't think. I like this idea.

  13. I think the discounted price works well. Is there the possibility of replacing these cd cases at all either? If not enough people want the cracked case. The amount that would have been the discount may add up to the amount it would cost to just replace them and sell them full price. Just a thought. Personally, my cases get all cracked up and broken at home anyway, so buying them at a discount really isn't a loss to me at all.

  14. Yeah, definitely. I don't need no stinking jewel case anyway! So, getting some sweet music for less money would be great. I mean, assuming I haven't already purchased them, of course :)

  15. pfft, I don't care about the case, it's the music that matters. I definitely would be interested.

  16. Definatly. Once I get the disk in the mail, I can always replace parts of the jewel case with ones that I have lying around already.

  17. I would definitely be up for that! Any chances I could get a discounted version of Taking Leave? I was just going to buy the digital copy cause shipping makes it rather pricey... but I would much rather the physical CD if it's at a decent price :)

  22. This would be pretty jokes. I mean, i it's that big of a deal to the people who buy the discounted cds, it's pretty easy to fix yourself. Just take a cd case you care about less and cannibalize them. I'm all for this idea, though it might encourage people to not pre-order and wait longer to buy the cd.

  23. Alan, for those of us with little money, but a love of DFTBA music, yes. Discounts would be made of awesome.

  24. Definetely intesrested in them! Anything for a discount really

  25. That's totally cool. Cheaper CDs, and if someone really had a problem with the cracks, they could buy some clear cases and transfer the stuff. I've done that before. I've also cracked a lot of cases and just kept them like that.

Also, start using great at least three times in each sentence. ;)

  26. Sell them for the same price, but include a personalised note or something with the package

  27. What's this!?
Did I just read the word "discount?"

If so, then I vote yes. :)

  28. I've already got Chameleon Circuit but if I didn't I would be interested in getting one... after all if I got a badly cracked case it's not that expensive to buy a blank case myself anyway.

  29. It's discount. There is never a problem with discount.
And people could always put them in different cases if it's real problem. :]

  30. I'm most definately up for it. Brill idea, everyone loves a discount. And it's not as if the actual product we care aout is broken.

Call the cracked cases "artistic" instead. ;D

  35. Great idea! My Chameleon Circuit case actually got cracked in the mail (not that I'm complaining) so I don't see why the other copies should be wasted. Would Taking Leave get this too?

  36. I <3 discounts!

Would mean I could actually get a physical copy rather than having to download it :)
